How do I retrieve my Graduation Copy of Microsoft Office?

Graduating students will use the below steps to obtain the Graduation copy of Microsoft Office. Mac users also see additional activation steps below.

1. Visit the Microsoft Azure Education portal: https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools

2. Click on the Blue Sign In button and enter your school-provided email address along with your password.  

3. Upon signing in, you may be asked to agree to the terms and conditions and the student/academic verification (for first time users). If not, you should be routed to the Education | Overview page. 

4. To see software available, please click Software located on the left-hand side of the page. 

  •     Use the Search Box to search software

Additional Office activation steps for MAC OSX:

  • From the software list choose Office Home & Business for Mac
  • Click View Key and copy key
  • Go to: https://office.com/setup and click Get Started

  • Sign in with personal email address – NOT Duke Email

  • Paste Key into box and click next to Redeem

  • The license should then be attached to your personal email account – under “Subscriptions And Services”
  • You may now complete software download and activation.

 

Should I install the Graduation Copy now? Or Wait?

The Graduation Copy of Microsoft Office will only work on ONE computer for the lifetime of that computer. If you are planning on getting a new computer soon, it is advised that you store your downloaded version and the serial number in a safe location and install it on your new computer later.

If you plan on keeping your current computer for a long period of time, please ensure you remove all versions of Microsoft Office from your computer before installing the new one.

 

Should I remove the previous version of Microsoft Office I currently have on my computer before installing the Graduation Copy?

Yes. Please remove all versions of Microsoft Office from your computer before installing the Graduation Copy.

PC: Within Settings, Uninstall a Program or Application > locate Microsoft Office and select Remove or Uninstall

Mac: Within the Applications folder, please drag each Office application (Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) into the Trash and empty the Trash.

 

Which Office product do I select?

Only the most recent version of Office is made available.

 

Will I lose my old documents when I uninstall the older version or install a newer version?

No. Your documents will remain if you are uninstalling an old version or installing a new version of Microsoft Office.

Please only install a new version of Microsoft Office once you have uninstalled the previous version.

 

How can I download this on a new/different computer?

The Graduation Copy of Microsoft Office will only work on ONE computer for the lifetime of that computer.

 

Will the current student version I have of Office expire?

If the copy of Microsoft Office you currently have on your computer is Microsoft Office 365, downloaded and installed from mail.duke.edu, yes. This version will expire when your NetID becomes inactive. Please see this article for details as to when the NetID will become inactive.

 

I graduated more than 30 days ago. How can I get my Graduation Copy of Microsoft Office?

The Graduation Copy of Microsoft Office is only available when your primary affiliation with Duke is “student.” 

 

Is there anything special I should do to install the software?

Please make sure you are installing the product on a computer you intend to keep for a while.

Please sure that you have removed any previous versions of Microsoft Office from your computer prior to installation.

Please ensure you have a Microsoft account to activate the software. Do NOT activate the software using your Duke email address.
