Should I install the Graduation Copy now, or wait?
- The Graduation Copy can only be used on one computer for the lifetime of that device.
- If you plan to purchase a new computer soon, save the installer and product key and install later.
- If keeping your current computer, make sure to remove previous Office versions first.
Remove previous versions
Yes — uninstall all Office versions before installing the Graduation Copy:
- Windows: Settings → Uninstall a Program / Apps → select Microsoft Office → Remove/Uninstall
- Mac: Applications → drag Office apps (Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) to Trash → Empty Trash
Which Office product?
Only the most recent version of Microsoft Office is available.
Will I lose my documents?
No. Uninstalling an older version or installing a newer version of Office does not delete your personal files.
New/different computer
The Graduation Copy license is limited to one computer for the lifetime of that machine and cannot be transferred.
Will my student version expire?
- If you installed Microsoft Office 365 from mail.duke.edu, it will expire when your NetID becomes inactive.
- See the Leaving Duke article for details on what happens to your accounts.
Graduated more than 30 days ago
The Graduation Copy is only available while your primary Duke affiliation is student. Access ends once your status changes.
Installation tips
- Install on a computer you intend to keep long-term.
- Remove all previous Office versions before installing.
