Associate Director of Systems and IT Operations Management
Travis Montgomery, with over 20 years of higher education technology experience, joined OIT in 2007 as a Windows and Novell Systems administrator. In his current role as Associate Director, Systems and IT Operations Management he oversees two teams which provide a wide range of infrastructure and operational services to the University.
The Systems Team, made of Windows and Linux systems administrators, provides OS level infrastructure and support for OIT’s Enterprise Applications and Services, Departmental Services, and Research Computing. In addition to supporting Windows Server and several Linux distributions the Systems Team offers Web Hosting and provides and supports widely used services such as Puppet, GitLab, Vault, Linux@Duke, and OKD/Kubernetes.
IT Operations Management (ITOM) is made up of two groups, Operations Management and Monitoring. These groups develop internal support and operational processes, lead the change management and incident response efforts, provide internal project management for major implementations and projects, and provide OIT’s Enterprise Monitoring service.
Travis’ entire professional career has been in the N.C. educational system. He started his career in the N.C. public schools where he taught choral music in Carteret and Durham counties before transitioning to IT, working at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina Central University before joining Duke.
