Associate Chief Information Officer
John Board has been a member of Duke's faculty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 1987, with research and teaching interests in computer architecture, digital and embedded systems design, and parallel and distributed computing. He is currently an associate professor and associate chair of the department.
In Fall 2007, John took on additional responsibilities as Duke's Associate Chief Information Officer, with a charge to improve the alignment between computing services offered by OIT and those offered in Duke's schools, departments, and other units, and to help Duke make wise investments in new technologies and services in aid of our teaching and research missions.
John has been an advocate for better campus computing throughout his time on the faculty. In addition to serving on numerous other computing-related committees and planning groups over the years, he has been a member of Duke's Information Technology Advisory Council since its founding in 1995 and served as its chair for three years.
John received a bachelor's degree from Duke in electrical engineering and French literature, and a master's degree, also from Duke, in electrical engineering. He holds a doctorate in theoretical physics from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.
