UPDATE: Upcoming Changes to Duke’s Wiki and Jira Services

As an active user of Duke’s Wiki and/or Jira services we would like for you to be aware of upcoming changes to these services. The vendor, Atlassian, recently announced it is migrating its products and services to the cloud at a significantly higher cost to its customers. This change in their business model is unpopular among many of their higher education customers. To address this change, Duke is offering alternative solutions to the Atlassian products.

What are the alternatives?

The optional solutions are as follows:

Duke Wiki

  • A Duke-managed "test" wiki service, for evaluation purposes only, will be available in July 2022 at no cost to users. Additional information about the service will be coming in June
  • Consider using one of Duke's collaboration tools to host your wiki, such as Box, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint. For more information about these tools, visit https://oit.duke.edu/what-we-do
  • Transition to a new Duke instance of Atlassian cloud at a fee to be determmined
  • Explore alternative tools with your IT support organization and/or OIT, which may bear a cost to your department

Duke Jira

  • Consider transitioning to GitLab or ServiceNow. For more information about these tools, visit https://oit.duke.edu/what-we-do
  • Transition to a new Duke instance of Atlassian cloud at a fee to be determined
  • Explore alternative tools with your IT support organization and/or OIT, which may bear a cost to your department

What do I need to do?

  • Review alternative solutions above
  • Review your Wiki and/or Jira content, back up the data, and delete any unnecessary content
  • In July, test Duke’s new wiki solution to see if it meets your needs. Additional information about the service will be sent to you in June
  • By October, decide on the best option for you

How do I get help deciding?

Between now and October, OIT will provide more details about moving content to the alternative solutions, to assist you in making an informed decision. If you have questions, contact your local IT support or the OIT Service Desk.

My department has a separate contract with Atlassian. Does this affect me?

No. If you do not access your Wiki at wiki.duke.edu or Jira at jira.oit.duke.edu, then this change does not affect you and you can disregard this message. Learn more about Atlassian Cloud and associated fees.

We appreciate your patience as we implement the necessary changes to Duke's Wiki and Jira services. We will continue to provide updates as they become available and will work with you or your local IT organization during this transition.
