Microsoft Office Activation FAQ for Students

Which version of Office is right for me?
While Enrolled at Duke
- Students may download and use Microsoft Office 365 at no cost.
- Available on up to 5 devices (PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones).
- Includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and 1TB of OneDrive storage.
- Requires NetID login for activation.
- Access ends upon graduation or leaving Duke.
Graduating Students
- Eligible for a free, perpetual Microsoft Office license for one Mac or PC.
- Does not require NetID login after installation.
- Only one download/installation is allowed.
- Must be downloaded during your final semester at Duke.
Download Instructions: Microsoft Office 365
- Go to http://mail.duke.edu and log in with your NetID.
- Click the app launcher (grid icon) in the top-left corner.
- Select Microsoft 365.
- Click "Install and more" in the top-right corner.
- Choose "Install Microsoft 365 apps", then click "Install Office".
- When prompted, select "Sign in to an existing Office 365 Subscription".
- Enter your Duke email (netID@duke.edu) and log in with your NetID credentials.
Note: Access to Office 365 ends when your Duke affiliation ends. Applications will enter reduced-functionality mode (view-only), and OneDrive/online services will no longer be available.
Graduation Copy: How to Get It
- Before graduation, visit the Duke Software website for more information (NetID login required).
- View the Graduating Students section.
- This license is perpetual and valid for one device.
- Access to the software page ends once your Duke affiliation expires.
Already Graduated and Forgot to Download?
- The graduation copy page is NetID-protected.
- If you didn’t download it before graduation, you will no longer have access.
- Be sure to download your copy during your final semester.
