Director of Communications, Physical Infrastructure & Operations
John Andreala is the Director of Communications for Physical Infrastructure & Operations, beginning his journey in OIT in 2008 as the Senior Manager of Communications Infrastructure. In this position he led the OIT staff members within the Field Technician Team, Outside Plant Engineering/Design, and Project Management Team for Construction Installations of OIT Services. His projects included all university and medical facility locations, where he oversaw the implementation of networking cabling infrastructure, Cellular system, 800 MHz radio system, Wi-Fi, and IPTV.
In 2011, John was promoted to the position of Assistant Director of OIT. In this position, he managed a team responsible for overseeing the 24/7 Operators Center, Duke Card Field Technicians, OIT Storeroom, Voice (VOIP) Conversion Project Team, RF team (cellular, paging, and radio systems) and Network Cabling Infrastructure Project Team.
In 2018, John was promoted to his current role which includes all services such as voice, video, data network (including wireless), regional fiber infrastructure installation/maintenance for TFG, P25 radio system, cellular (DAS), enterprise video surveillance and card access infrastructures for all University and Medical buildings. Supervise the planning, engineering and installation of complex communication inter-building and intra-building copper/fiber cabling at all Duke University and Medical buildings. Review and manage all power related projects pertaining to OIT related interests (ie. data centers, telcom closets) by directly interacting with Duke University Facilities Department and outside consultants.
John originates from the New York City area and relocated to Raleigh, N.C. in 2008 once when he began his career at Duke University.
