MyGPT Builder and AI Gateway for Developers now available
As part of Duke’s AI Suite, two new AI tools – MyGPT Builder and the AI Gateway for Developers – are now available for Duke University students, faculty and staff.
MyGPT Builder and the AI Gateway for Developers join Microsoft Copilot, DukeGPT and ChatGPT at Duke to form Duke’s suite of AI tools.
MyGPT Builder allows users to create and manage their own customized AI environments with chatbots, offering full administrative control to build tailored resources, and experiment with models, knowledge bases, and datasets in a secure environment. Designed for advanced users and developers, the AI Gateway can be used to build AI-powered apps and tools.
Both tools allow for experimentation with data within a secure, Duke-managed environment.
Possible Uses of MyGPT Builder
For staff a custom GPT can:
- Share institutional knowledge (internal documents, data, tooling, wikis, and knowledge base information) in a conversational format and make it searchable, i.e., enabling easy onboarding of new employees
- Preserve insights from complex staff projects and create a searchable archive
- Share context-specific procedures, protocols, terminology, and FAQs, within departments or units
- Streamline workflows and save time, making tasks such as creating content for websites, newsletters, and social media quick and easy
For faculty a custom GPT can:
- Help with discipline-specific instructional design, generating syllabi and curriculum development
- Answer common student questions about deadlines, forms, policies and other information-heavy questions
- Provide after-hours student support and help create individualized learning plans
- Convert course materials and background information for a lab or class into different formats or synthesize themes across multiple sources
For students a custom GPT can:
- Serve as a tutor by generating flashcards, practice quizzes and study guides tailored to a syllabus, or help them prepare for exams
- Roleplay interviews, industry-specific networking events and provide feedback
- Create a personalized study schedule based on class schedules, break down large projects into manageable tasks with deadlines, and send reminders and tips for staying on track
- Make it easy for members of student clubs and organizations to access history and share information from year to year, ensuring smooth transitions between leadership teams
Where
the AI Gateway Can Lead
The AI Gateway is best for developers and advanced users who want API access through LiteLLM to navigate multiple AI models using a single, unified interface. It allows them to integrate AI-driven tools into their own applications, tools and internal systems.
The AI Gateway can help developers:
- Easily compare and test models with minimal code changes using a common API
- Manage usage and set budgets with tracking and limits
- Generate personal API keys for use in tools like VS Code or Cursor
- Choose between cloud-based and on-premise models
- Access both proprietary (like OpenAI) and open-source (like Llama, Mistral) models through a single system
