GPT-5 Now Available in Duke’s AI Suite
GPT-5, OpenAI’s most advanced AI model built for writing, research, analysis, coding, and problem-solving, is now available by default in Duke University’s suite of AI tools.
ChatGPT Edu and DukeGPT users already have GPT-5 in their Duke workspace as the primary model. Older models will continue to be available in MyGPT Builder and in the AI Gateway for Developers alongside GPT-5.
GPT-5 brings powerful new capabilities to support your work in teaching, learning, and research. With deeper reasoning built in, GPT-5 thinks harder when needed and asks relevant follow-up questions to keep work moving forward. It allows you to work like a power user with a real‑time router that quickly decides which model to use.
What’s New with GPT-5
- Smarter and More Capable – Excels in writing, research, analysis, coding, and problem-solving, with built-in advanced reasoning.
- More Reliable – Delivers faster, more accurate responses with richer citations and a professional tone.
- Proactive Collaboration – Identifies missing context, asks relevant follow-ups, suggests next steps, and recommends useful output formats (PDFs, one-pagers, emails, reports).
- Autoswitcher - Users will be auto-routed to get the best answer, every time. Advanced users can access GPT-5’s flagship capabilities and high-reasoning mode (“Thinking”) which will trigger automatically when appropriate (or manually by selecting that model). Premium users can manually trigger GPT-5-Pro for additional reasoning power.
