DukeGPT Quick-Start Guide

Note: DukeGPT is available to the Duke University community. It cannot be used for Protected Health Information (PHI) and there is no Business Associate Agreement (BAA) in support of compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

 

Access DukeGPT

Navigate to the DukeGPT URL: chat.ai.duke.edu

 

Sign in to Open WebUI

The first time you access DukeGPT, you will be prompted to sign in to Open WebUI. Click the “Continue with Duke University OpenID Connect” button which will take you to a Duke NetID login page.

Account Activation

If this is your first time logging in, you will need to wait 1-5 minutes for your account to be provisioned. You can select the "Check Again" button to check if your account is ready.

Review the information you are providing to the Open WebUI Production Instance, make any changes to the “Remember this decision” box, and click “Authorize”.

DukeGPT User Interface

The DukeGPT user interface consists of three main areas: chat box, models, and notes/search/chat history.

Chat Box

You can immediately start chatting with DukeGPT by typing your own question or prompt. Or you can use any of the suggested prompts for example, finding parking options, events, or resources for students at Duke.

Other functions in the chat box include:

  • + Capture or Upload Files: Select the "+" to either capture a web browser tab, window, or entire screen or upload a file for the chat box to use.
  • Code Interpreter: This tool allows you to input code that will be executed for analysis.
  • Record Voice or Call: Select the microphone icon to record your voice and then copy the transcription into the chat box. Or select the headphones icon to initiate a call that will automatically initiate a chat from whatever you say.

Models

Choose the down arrow next to GPT 4.1 to set a different default model.

 

Select the "+" symbol to add additional models and see side-by-side chat results from each model you choose.

Notes

If needed, add additional notes that would be helpful for you to remember. Select the triple dot menu beside of a note to Download, Share, or Delete the note.

Search

Search your chat history using keywords or try searching by tags. Note: Tags are automatically created for each of your chats, but you can also create new tags.

Chat History

Revisit your chat history and click the triple dot menu to the right of the chat title for further tools including Pin, Rename, Clone, Archive, Share, Download, Delete, and Add Tags.

Chat Controls

For advanced configuration of your current chat, select the Controls option in the upper right to change any of the default settings.
