Zoom Meetings: Passcodes and Waiting Rooms

How to admit participants from the waiting room

To admit participants from the waiting room, start the meeting. When a participant joins, you'll hear an alert and a banner displays, indicating participants are waiting (if you do not hear an alert, you will need to enable that option under Settings). Do one of the following:

  • Admit participants directly from the banner.
  • Click Participants. The Participant pane opens. Admit participants individually or all at once.

Note: If a participant joins after you click Admit All, you will need to admit them to the meeting.

Waiting room settings

Changes you make to your waiting room settings affect all of your meetings.

  1. From a web browser, log in to duke.zoom.us.

  2. From the left sidebar, select Settings.



  3. To enable the waiting room for all of your meetings, click to enable Waiting Room.

  4. To enable the waiting room only for certain users, under Waiting Room Options, click Edit Options. A pop-up window appears. Under Who should go in the waiting room?, select one of the following:
    • Users not in your account: Any participant not logged in to a Duke Zoom account will go into the waiting room. 
    • Users who are not in your account and not part of your whitelisted domains: Any participant not logged in to a Duke Zoom account or joining from a specified domain will go into the waiting room. In the window provided, paste the following: 
      *.wxdu.org, *.duke.edu, *.alban.org, *.dku.edu.cn, *.dukekunshan.edu.cn, *.nescent.org, *.foresthistory.org, *.robertsonscholars.org, *div.duke.edu, *law.duke.edu

  5. Click Continue. Your changes are saved.

How to enable passcodes on your Zoom account

You can enable passcodes at any time (the default security option is to use a waiting room). To enable passcodes, do the following:

  1. From a web browser, log in to duke.zoom.us.
  2. From the left sidebar, select Meetings -> Upcoming. 
  3. Select a meeting. Under Security, click to select Passcode.

  4. Click Save. The Invite Link is displayed.
  5. Click Copy invitation and share it with the meeting participants (for example, edit a calendar entry and paste the link into the body).


How to enable passcodes for your Personal Meeting Room

  1. From a web browser, log in to duke.zoom.us.
  2. From the left sidebar, select Meetings -> Personal Room.



  3. Click Edit. On the next screen, under Security, click to select Passcode. A password is generated (you can overwrite this setting with one you prefer).

  4. Click Save.
  5. Click Copy the Invitation and share it with the meeting participants (for example, edit a calendar entry and paste the link into the body).
