The Data and Analytics Practice has developed a number of reports and visualizations to support the operational needs of departments throughout campus. Most of these require authentication and approval.

Alliance for Interdisciplinary Innovation in Computing Education (AiiCE)
AiiCE metrics quantify the efforts around broadening participation in computing education.

The Duke Annual Report on Racial Equity (DARRE) project tracks progress on racial equity efforts across the various units that comprise the Duke enterprise. The DARRE contains four areas for assessment: Representation, Policies and Practices, Education, and Environment. In collaboration with DARRE representatives, the Data Analytics Practice developed institutional reports on the Representation and Environment sections, listed below as “Demographics” and “Environment Survey,” respectively.

Demographics
The Demographics Dashboard supports the Representation quadrant of the DARRE assessment. The dashboard reports on demographic breakdowns for units across Duke, and compares those units to broader areas within which the units are housed. The report includes breakdowns on unit composition as well as demographic breakdowns in hiring, promotions, and terminations.

Environment Survey
The Environment Dashboard supports the Environment quadrant of the DARRE assessment. The dashboard offers a snapshot of the culture within units. The report includes items from the 2021 and 2024 Duke Campus Culture Survey and displays unit-level survey results, compared to the unit parent areas.

Duke Facilities Management provides planning, design, construction, cleanliness, operations and maintenance of facilities, grounds, and utilities for the university. The Data Analytics practice works most closely with the Facilities Energy Management team in their mission of sustainable management of Energy, Water, and Natural Resources for the Duke Community.

Energy Budget
The Energy Budget dashboard helps the Facilities Energy Management team and building managers throughout Duke understand budgeted monthly utility costs against actual consumption for Duke buildings throughout campus.

In collaboration with Duke’s Human Resources Business Administration office, the Data Analytics Practice developed a detailed set of reports to support HR People Analytics needs. The reports are designed such that row-level permissions at the database level restrict data to only a given department, based on grouper-group membership. For more information on this dashboard, or to request access, please contact Bill Marchese (bill.marchese@duke.edu).

Human Resources Dashboard
The Human Resources Dashboard provides demographic breakdowns across numerous areas of human resources. The dashboard provides breakdowns in four major areas:

  • People at a Glance provides detailed breakdowns of department metrics, including headcount, personnel distribution, tenure/age, and demographic breakdowns.
  • Staff Movement reports on demographic trends with respect to headcount, turnover, terminations, and promotions.
  • Recruitment reports on demographic breakdowns for HR requisitions and movement throughout the recruitment and application process.
  • Hiring provides a scorecard on department hiring performance, along with detailed breakdowns of key metrics. It includes insights into candidate decline reasons and hiring trends over time.
