Updated Duke AI tools and upcoming webinars for Fall 2026
As we begin a new semester and a new year of possibilities, we are pleased to share Duke’s updated suite of AI tools to help you explore AI in secure, university-supported environments.
Duke's Office of Information Technology will soon launch a dedicated AI Support and Training Hub with training, guidance, best practices, and other resources to help you make the most of these tools, many of which are available at no cost. More details to come.

Introducing Duke’s AI Tools

Duke AI Tools Available This Fall
- ChatGPT for Education Standard (University only). Available to all university faculty, staff, and students at no cost with your NetID.
- ChatGPT for Education Premium (University only). Available on a pay-as-you-go basis through a department fund code for those who need higher usage limits or advanced features. More information is available on the OIT website.
- Microsoft Copilot (University and Duke Health). Available at no cost with your NetID.
- Copilot for Microsoft 365 (University and Duke Health). An optional add-on that integrates AI into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Available for $12 per user, per month. More information is available on the OIT website.
- Zoom AI Companion(University and Duke Health, with restrictions). Provides AI-powered meeting summaries and other productivity features within Zoom.
- Claude Code and Cowork. Coming this fall! Duke has signed an agreement with Anthropic, and Claude Code and Cowork will be available on a pay-as-you-go basis. More information to come.
- DukeGPT (University only). A secure, university-managed platform for exploring and comparing advanced AI models, including four new open-source models added this summer.
- MyGPT Builder (University only). Create and manage customized AI assistants for courses, projects, research, and other work.
- Duke AI Gateway (University only). Provides developers and researchers with LiteLLM API keys to integrate Duke-supported AI models into applications. A new duke-current model automatically keeps applications aligned with Duke’s latest supported model.
As always, please review AI-generated content for accuracy before using or sharing it. Here are some other reminders for using Duke’s AI tools:
- Sign in to Duke AI tools using your NetID so your work remains within Duke’s protected environment.
- Microsoft Copilot is approved for use within the Duke Health environment, but it should not be used with PHI (personal health information) unless specifically approved.
- Under no circumstances should PHI be uploaded to ChatGPT Edu, DukeGPT, MyGPTBuilder, or the AI Gateway.
- Sensitive data, excluding PHI, can be worked with in Duke’s Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT Edu environments. Refer to Duke’s Security Office guidelines for data storage for more information.
- If your data is being used for research, be sure to follow Duke’s research protocols for generative AI use.
Note for DKU: While these tools are not currently available at DKU, DKU students participating in programs on Duke’s Durham campus will have access during their stay.
