Meet duke.is: A link’s best friend
Sometimes the hardest part of sharing information online is simply making the URL readable. With long strings of characters, tracking parameters, and awkward wrapping, even the simplest share can look messy. That’s where duke.is comes in.
Duke.is is Duke’s own link‑shortening service, designed to turn long, unwieldy URLs into clean, manageable links condensed into a concise, Duke‑branded format. That branding also serves an important purpose: it signals that the link comes from a trusted source, offering reassurance in an online environment where suspicious links and scams are increasingly common.
Created by ESS Web & Mobile in the Office of Information Technology, duke.is has been modified based on Duke community feedback. The newest features now allow users to:
- Create short links with custom vanity slugs
- Automatically generate QR codes for quick and convenient sharing
- Track how many times a link has been accessed
- Allow multiple people to manage a link, making it easier for teams to share responsibility for maintaining it
Future improvements may include branded QR codes and ways to share URL ownership with individuals or groups.
