Information for Anthropic Users with Duke Email Addresses
We are pleased to announce that Duke University and Duke Health have reached an agreement with Anthropic to offer Claude as an approved enterprise AI tool for the Duke community. This expands access to trusted AI capabilities for teaching, learning, research, and administrative work. Additional details about Duke’s Anthropic offering will be shared with the broader community next week.
As part of this rollout, Duke will claim and manage the duke.edu email domain within Anthropic’s Claude platform. As a result, individuals who currently use Claude with a Duke-affiliated email address may be affected.
Why is this happening?
Anthropic currently requires organizations to claim an entire email domain. Because of this platform limitation, existing Claude accounts using a duke.edu email address may be affected. This is a limitation of Anthropic’s identity management capabilities, not a policy decision made by Duke.
Action required
If you use Claude for Duke or Duke Health work:
- Do not make any changes to your account at this time.
- We will provide detailed instructions for account migration and continued access over the coming weeks.
If you use Claude only for personal purposes and do not plan to use Duke’s enterprise Claude offering, we recommend that you:
- Export any conversations or data you wish to retain.
- Create a new Claude account using a personal, non-Duke email address.
Anthropic provides documentation to help users export their data and manage their accounts.
What to expect next
Over the coming weeks, we will share additional guidance, including:
- How existing Duke-affiliated Claude accounts will be affected
- The process for continuing to use Claude for Duke-related work
- Eligibility and access procedures
- Migration timelines and account management details
Thank you for your patience as we prepare to launch Duke’s enterprise Anthropic service.
