Microsoft Online Learning

As part of Duke's campus license agreement with Microsoft, Duke students, staff and faculty can access free online courses from Microsoft.com. Tutorials include applications such as Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, PowerPoint and systems such as Windows XP and Windows Vista.

NOTE: System requirements may vary between specific courses. For this reason, each course has its own set of system requirements you can view to ensure your system meets the minimum requirements to play the course.

Initial Activation Steps:

  1. Locate & write down Duke's multiuser access codes.  Do not share this code with anyone.
  2. Select the Sign In button the Microsoft Online Learning Sign In page.
  3. Select the Organizational Account link on the Sign In page.
  4. Enter Organizational Account (must be a duke.edu, dm.duke.edu, mc.duke.edu email address) and press the Enter/Return key.
  5. New users will receive a notification stating, "This email address [your@duke.edu] is not enrolled with an organization."
  6. Click the here link and enter one of the multiuser access codes from the link above, enter your duke.edu, dm.duke.edu, or mc.duke.edu email address and click the Submit button.
  7. An activation confirmation screen will appear.  Select the Continue button to go to the User Agreement page.
  8. On the User Agreement page, check the I Accept checkbox and select the Continue button.
  9. Complete your User Profile by ensuring all required fields are completed and select the Save button.
  10. User now has access to Microsoft Online Learning Courses.
Add the remaining access codes to unlock all available courses:
  1. While logged into the Microsoft Online Learning site, click your name at the top-right of the screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select add subscription.
  3. Enter one of the access codes (from the link in step 1 above) and your duke.edu, dm.duke.edu, or mc.duke.edu e-mail address and click submit.
  4. Repeat if there are remaining codes to be entered.

To add a course:

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Online Learning using your Organizational Account. 
  2. From the Microsoft Online Learning Dashboard, select the Browse Courses tab just above the My Courses tile.
  3. A dropdown menu will appear of the various training subjects.  Select the subject of interest.  The resulting screen will display the available courses on that subject.
  4. When the desired course is found, select the Add button to add the course to the user's My Course list.
  5. User now has access to course added.

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Online Learning using your Organizational Account.
  2. At the top right corner of the Microfsoft Online Leaning Dashboard, there is a search box.  Enter a search term to locate specific courses.
  3. When the desired course is found, select the Add button to add the course to the user's My Course list.
  4. User now has access to course added.  Once the course has been added, the user can access it at any time.  The user has 12 months from the time of launch to finsh the course.

To access your courses:

The homepage serves as a dashboard for the user to quickly access teh courses of importance.

  • The last course you accessed will appear in a Resume last course tile on your Dashboard.  Select the Resume tile to pick up where you left off.
  • Courses that are assigned to you - or that you selected yourself - that are not yet completed are available by clicking the My Coures tile.
  • Courses that you have completed are aviaiable by returning to the Dashboard page and selecting the My Acheivements tile.  Aside from reviewing the course content, you can access your transcripts and completion certificates.
  1. Sign in to Microsoft Online Learning using your Organizational Account.
  2. From the dashboard, select the My Courses tile to access specific course information.
    • Immediately start course: Select the course tile to the left of the course title.
    • Course Overview: Select the course title and select the overview tab.
    • Course Syllabus: Select the course title and select the syllabus tab, or select the the syllabus icon from the Course tile.
    • System Requirements: Select the course title and select the system requirements tab.
