Self Service Audio Podcasting & Recording User Guide
BCS Studio 4 is provided for the purpose of audio recording for Duke related projects. Any activities not related to its primary use is prohibited. If you are found violating this policy, your access to the BCS will be revoked.

§ What Not To Do
- No eating or drinking
- Do not adjust any equipment's physical position
- Exceptions
- OK to adjust height and length of microphone boom arms
- OK to adjust faders, switches, and knobs on the Zoom P8
- OK to insert (your own) SD Card
- Do not use for any production other than Duke related projects

§ What To Do
- Recording to multiple channels is automatically done when recording with an SD card, not through your computer.
- To confirm multiple channel recording is properly configured:
- Tap “On Air” on the home screen
- Make sure “With Tone & Comp” is selected
- To confirm multiple channel recording is properly configured:
- When recording onto your computer, we recommend using QuickTime on Mac and Voice Recorder on Windows. Audacity is not recommended.

- Recording To SD Card (you supply)
- Insert SD Card on the back of the Zoom P8
- Power the Zoom P8 mixer on with switch on back of the device.
- Press Record
- If you want to keep the take, save the file by pressing stop.
- Almost any standard SD card will work fine, but here's a recommended option.
- SD cards can also be bought at the computer store.
- Recording To SD Card (you supply)
- Recording To QuickTime (Mac)
- Attach the supplied USB cable to your computer (USB-C or with the attached adapter USB-A)
- Power the Zoom P8 mixer on with switch on back of the device.
- Launch QuickTime
- Go to File – New Audio Recording
- Choose Zoom P8 audio USB driver
- Click dropdown next to record button
- Press the record button
- If you want to keep the take, save the file
- Recording To Voice Recorder (WIN)
- Attach the supplied USB cable to your computer
- Launch Voice Recorder
- Choose Zoom P8 audio USB driver in Window Settings
- Press the record button
- If you want to keep the take, save the file
- Recording To Zoom
- If you are the host of the meeting:
- Start the meeting from your laptop
- Invite the Zoom Room
- Start the recording from your laptop.
- If you start the meeting from the Zoom Room
- Join the meeting from your laptop
- Reclaim role as host of the meeting
- Start the recording from your laptop.
- If you are just using the Zoom Room to record
- Enter your email address when prompted on the touchpanel when you end the recording and a link to the recording will be sent to you.
- If you are the host of the meeting:
- Recording with your Phone as an Audio Source over Bluetooth
- Press & hold button on left side of the Zoom BTA-2 for 2 seconds
- Go to Bluetooth connections on your phone
- Select BTA-2 and connect
- Light will turn from white to blue when connected
- Passing computer audio into the studio mixer
- Connect your laptop with a USB cable plugged into the rear of the mixer.
- Ensure Channel 6 on the mixer is switched to the right-most input option (a USB logo), and that volume is raised.
- Ensure that your laptop's audio out and input is set to the P8 mixer in your system settings.
- By playing audio from your laptop, you should be able to hear through the headphones at the table.
- If recording with an SD card, this channel will be recorded as a separate track from the microphone inputs.
- Using the "Recording" Light
- The exterior "Recording" light can be turned on by pressing the associated button on the desk next to the soundboard. Pressing it twice will turn it off. The light will automatically turn off after 2 hours.
- File Management
- Remember to remove your SD card and take it with you
- If the files are on your computer, it’s recommended you back them up to a server such as the Duke OIT NAS or Box.com
- Using The Zoom Room
- To just see the remote side (using something else for audio transmission)
- Connect to your remote source via the Zoom Room control panel
- Mute the audio of the Zoom Room device on the Zoom Room Control Panel
- To bring in a remote participant’s audio to the mixer via Zoom Web Conferencing*
- Connect the Zoom Branded Mixer to your laptop via USB**
- Connect the Polycom to your laptop via USB**
- Click the blue “Start” button on the Zoom Room Control panel to enter “BYOD” mode
- Launch Zoom on your laptop
- Set your camera to “Polycom X30”
- Set your microphone to “Polycom X30”
- Set your speaker to “Zoom P8”
- On channel 6 of the Zoom Branded Mixer, set the switch at the top of the channel all the way to the right for the “USB Symbol”
- That will control the volume of the remote speaker(s)
- Press record on the mixer to record your program.
- To just see the remote side (using something else for audio transmission)
*This will also allow you to record in the Zoom Web Conferencing application but we recommend using an SD card as that will get you separate tracks of the people in the room and one track of all the people on Zoom
