SAS Information

SAS Overview & Licensing

  • Download SAS licenses or ISO files (available at no cost through a grant to NCICU schools).
  • SAS licenses expire annually on June 30.
  • Eligibility:
    • Faculty, staff, and affiliates on Duke-owned or Duke-leased computers for Duke purposes
    • Employees on personally owned devices used for Duke work
    • Students on Duke-dedicated, student-owned computers
  • If you only need SAS occasionally, have a Mac, are outside the U.S., or prefer not to install, SAS 9.4 is available via the Virtual Computing Lab (VCL).

Installation Options

You may install SAS in two ways:

  1. Connect to the SAS Software Depot (network share)
    • Fastest and does not require downloads
    • May not work on some Health System networks due to security restrictions
  2. Download ISO files

Connect to the SAS Software Depot (Windows)

  1. Log in as an administrator on your computer.
  2. Connect to a Duke network (on campus or via VPN).
  3. Right-click the Windows icon → File Explorer.
  4. Right-click This PCMap Network Drive.
  5. Uncheck Reconnect at logon; check Connect using different credentials.
  6. In the Folder box enter:
    \\oit-nas-nb01.oit.duke.edu\software\sas_94 (64-bit only)
  7. Click Finish, then log in with:
    • User name: WIN\netid
    • Password: your NetID password
  8. Open the folder and double-click setup.exe (the one with the “S” icon).

If setup.exe is not visible, file extensions may be hidden. Click the second setup file with the “S” icon.

Troubleshooting Depot Access

  • Access denied: Reset your NetID password, restart your computer, and try again using WIN\netid.
  • No logon servers available:
    • On Health System networks: permissions/firewall issues may block access. Use ISO files instead.
    • Non-Health System: disconnect/reconnect, restart your computer, or clear mapped drives using net use commands.
  • Cannot find server or hangs: Confirm you are on a Duke network or connected via VPN.
