Copyright and DukeStream

Although streaming servers traditionally have provided a level of built-in copyright protection by virtue of how they transmit data, this in and of itself is not sufficient to validate the streaming of copyrighted material, even for use in instructional contexts.

Copyright Resources

  • Duke's Scholarly Communications Office (http://library.duke.edu/about/depts/scholcomm/) can assist you with questions related to the delivery of copyrighted materials at Duke.
  • Duke's Center for the Public Domain has released a comic book called Bound by Law? Tales from the Public Domain designed to inform laypeople, particularly the creative people themselves, about fair use. It is available on the Web at http://www.law.duke.edu/cspd/comics/zoomcomic.html.
