For DukeCapture Site Administrators

About DukeCapture Site Administrators

The DukeCapture program is built around Site Administrators who function as technical leads in the various schools and departments in which this tool is deployed.  DukeCapture Site Admins are A/V and/or IT professionals who have been trained by OIT to utilize and manage the system and who server as primary support contacts for their users.

Automated capture vs. mobile capture

DukeCapture-Panopto offers both automated (scheduled) recording in selected venues across campus and a mobile capture service (DukeCapture Mobile), which can be used on any Windows or Macintosh computer that meets basic requirements.  DukeCapture-Panopto appliance PCs can be installed in any rooms you wish to enable for automated capture.  OIT bears licensing and infrastructure costs for the DukeCapture-Panopto service.  Customers are required to purchase specified PC's used for capture with required capture cards and to cover all A/V integration costs.  These systems are referred to as "DukeCapture Appliances." Customers purchase appliances from the Duke Computer Store (http://epos1.sequoiars.com/ePOS?this_category=236&store=709&form=shared3%2fgm%2fmain%2ehtml&design=deptcomputers).

Different software is used for DukeCapture Mobile and for DukeCapture-Panopto automated recording.  DukeCapture Mobile software is called the "Windows Recorder" (PC) and the "Mac Recorder" (Mac).  Collectively they are referred to as the "Mobile Client." The software used for Automated Capture is called the "Remote Recorder," is Windows only, and is installed directly by OIT as part of its managment of DukeCapture appliances.  To use DukeCapture Mobile software, users work with a Site Administrator, who sets up an account for them with the appropriate access controls.  Once they have an account, they can download the software from the Panopto web site specific to their school or department and can begin using it, coordinating with their Site Administrator for any needed training.

Technical documentation for DukeCapture-Panopto is now maintained on the OIT Wiki.  If you are a DukeCapture-Panopto Site Administrator looking for technical information, please visit the following link:
