New System Replaces WebMail, WebMail Classic

OIT will replace the web interface for all email systems except Microsoft Exchange early in the morning on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Users of DukeMail who use either WebMail (webmail.duke.edu) or WebMail Classic (mail.duke.edu) to access their accounts on the web, and users of departmental email systems, such as Physics Mail and Electrical Engineering Mail (my.duke.edu), will see a new Email Web Access system when they log in after this date. Users of MS Exchange will continue to access their accounts through Outlook Web Access (http://exchange.oit.duke.edu).

Work to convert to the new Email Web Access will begin at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Although DukeMail and departmental mail users should experience only a brief interruption in service when the new system is activated, OIT recommends staying out of the webmail.duke.edu, mail.duke.edu and my.duke.edu systems until 1 a.m. on Nov. 10, when these web addresses will all redirect to webmail.duke.edu.

The new Email Web Access allows for:

  • two-column and three-column views of mailbox contents
  • drag-and-drop handling of messages
  • selection of multiple messages for deletion or filing
  • full rich-text formatting
  • management of group email accounts
  • management of multiple "from" email addresses

Documentation on Duke's new Email Web Access system will be available in the Duke knowledgebase. If you have questions or comments about the new system after it is put into service, please contact the OIT Service Desk
