Additional IT Resources at Duke

Storage & Back-up

WebFiles

OIT recommends that you regularly back up important files to protect yourself from data loss. All Duke students receive a free, 5-gigabyte online storage account through Duke WebFiles at https://webfiles.duke.edu.  Just log in with your NetID from any location to upload or download files. You can even use WebFiles to share files easily with friends or study groups.

Automatic Back-up

Do you back up your important files every day? Probably not. Duke has partnered with Iron Mountain, an industry leader in information protection and data storage, to provide the Duke community with Connected®, a PC file backup and recovery solution. Save almost 85 percent off list price by signing up through the Iron Mountain Web site. Click here to learn more about this service.

DukePass portal

The DukePass portal allows students to view the latest Duke news, events, weather and more. It's also a resource for helpful links to Duke applications such as Webmail, Blackboard, Webfiles and ACES.

Computer training

OIT provides free workshop sessions on some popular software applications, as well as an online training pilot through Lynda.com.  Browse the OIT Training Web pages for more information.

Froshlife movie festival

Duke's Froshlife event is one of America's premier college/university digital movie festivals, and is a signature event in the Duke first-year experience. Froshlife has garnered regional and national media attention by bringing first-year Duke students together with video cameras and laptops to produce a story all about their first year at the university in eight minutes or less. Almost a quarter of each year's freshmen participate as directors, crew, actors and premiere attendees.

Duke Digital Initiative

The Duke Digital Initiative (DDI) is a multi-year program of experimentation, development and implementation of new and emerging technologies to explore their effective use in support of the university's mission. In past years, DDI has enabled students to use iPods and video cameras in their coursework.
