Welcome to Duke!

OIT's New to Duke Web pages contain important information on technology and computing at Duke.

Getting started with Technology at Duke:

  • Choosing a computer: Computers tailored specifically to the Duke environment are available through the Technology Advantage Program (TAP). If you want to bring a computer from home, OIT provides a list of recommended computer specifications.
  • Software: Duke provides many software packages for free or at a discount, including free anti-virus software for students. Duke's IT Security Office is committeed to helping students protect their computers and information from viruses and spyware.
  • NetID and Network Access: Your Duke NetID is the electronic key to online Duke resources, including e-mail, digital file storage, ACES (for registration and grades), Blackboard (for course information), the DukePass portal, your Duke-issued Web space, and more.
  • E-mail: You can access your Duke e-mail account using any e-mail client (such as Mozilla Thunderbird and Microsoft Outlook), from most mobile devices, or via the Web at webmail.duke.edu.
  • Printing: Duke offers free and low-cost laser printing (subject to a free printing allocation) at dozens of locations throughout the campus.
  • Phones: Learn about 911 service in the residence halls.
  • Additional Resources: From DukeMobile to emergency DukeALERT notifications, the OIT site offers the most up-to-date information about computing on campus: oit.duke.edu.
