Duke computer users can now back up files automatically from their desktops and recover lost files online.
The Office of Information Technology began offering the service—intended mainly for those who back up files manually (on a flash drive or other such device) or not at all—this week through information-protection and data-storage company Iron Mountain.
Plans start at less than $3 a month and range from 2 to 20 gigabytes for individuals; group plans provide 10 gigabytes per computer. Users must check with department IT staff before registering Duke-owned computers. Backup is available for most operating systems used at Duke except Vista and OS X but will be available for those, too, later this year, according to Iron Mountain.
