Duke completes 10-digit dialing transition

Starting July 11, all Duke callers must include the area code when dialing local calls.

As a courtesy to assist in the Triangle-wide transition to 10-digit dialing, Duke has appended the 919 area code for all calls within the internal Duke (VoIP) system for the past three months.

Now that Duke callers are accustomed to the new dialing procedure (area code plus telephone number), the Duke system will require 10-digit dialing for all local calls. Starting July 11, if callers do not use the new dialing procedure, their call will not be completed, and a recording will instruct them to hang up and dial again.

Any calls made between two phones on the internal Duke (VoIP) system will still only require seven-digit dialing.

Duke users should make sure that all automatic dialing equipment (or other equipment programmed with a seven-digit number, such as fax machines and call forwarding settings) is reprogrammed to use 10-digit dialing.
