New campus directories ready for pickup
Please note that Duke made the decision in late 2009 to forgo creation of printed directories both to lessen our impact on the environment and to minimize the costs associated with developing, producing, storing and distributing paper directories. With the enhanced person/subject search now available on duke.edu and Duke Today, and the other directories listed in the E-mail & Accounts section of this site, there are several ways to find contact information for people at Duke. The news item below is being kept on our site for historical purposes only.
Jan. 5, 2009
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be distributing new Duke phone directories and accepting old phone books for recycling at designated locations on Jan. 7 and 8. Duke faculty, staff and students can drop off old phone books and pick up 2008-09 directories between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
Recycling phone books is one way the Duke community can contribute to the university’s environmental sustainability initiative and reduce Duke’s impact on the environment, said Janice Jordan, recycling and distribution coordinator.
Recycled phone books are made into products such as animal bedding, home insulation, bathroom tissue, cereal boxes, roofing shingles, and new phone books.
The 2008-09 Duke phone directory has about 500 pages of telephone listings for faculty and staff, departmental listings, a campus map, coupons and yellow pages. Verizon directories also will be available upon request.
New directories and recycling bins will be available at the following locations:
- East Campus Student Center (lobby by the post office)
- East Duke Building lobby
- Bryan Center (ground level by McDonald’s)
