OIT Service Updates available via Web, e-mail, RSS

Aug. 11, 2008

What’s the first thing you do when your Duke e-mail service is down?

While the tempting reaction might be to bang your head against the desk, the most productive solution is to check the OIT service updates to find out more about the outage and how long it could affect you. OIT provides status updates about email, network access, and other OIT services and applications on the Web, via e-mail and using RSS.

Whenever there’s an unscheduled outage, it feeds to the OIT homepage so that customers can easily access the latest information about key campus services. Many outages, however, are due to scheduled upgrades and fixes and are announced by OIT ahead of time. Planned and unplanned outages are all displayed on the OIT Help site.

If you’re interested in receiving OIT service updates via e-mail, you can join the Service Updates e-mail list. The list generally receives a few e-mails per week. You can subscribe or unsubscribe at any time.

If you prefer to use RSS, you can opt to receive OIT service updates using your feed reader. For more information about RSS or how to subscribe to the Service Updates RSS feed, visit http://oit.duke.edu/help/rss/index.html.
