Facilities design guidelines

Duke University implements voice, data and video requirements that rely on a wiring infrastructure of high-quality design. These requirements are intended to inform planners, architects, engineers and contractors of the minimum infrastructure requirements of Duke University and Duke University Health System, and must be met for all on- and off-campus Duke facilities.

Gartner Research

Duke University has contracted with Gartner, Inc., to provide the Duke community with access to their vast stores of knowledge and research on industry trends, technology and best practices. Anyone with a Duke NetID and password can access the Gartner site.

IT infrastructure

OIT provides several services related to IT infrastructure to meet the changing needs of campus computing. Backup services include Tivoli Storage Manager backup and archiving services, SAN Disk storage and TDP database backups. OIT also offers Active Directory services to the Duke community.

Project management

OIT follows project management guidelines developed in collaboration with campus and outside peers. These guidelines, templates and flowcharts are designed as resources to improve efficiency and productivity and to encourage project success.

SharePoint service

OIT provides a Microsoft SharePoint service that allows for comprehensive content management, enterprise search, shared business processes and information-sharing facilitation. SharePoint's delegated administration model is based upon site "collections," that allow for sub-site creation, control of user and group permissions through Active Directory and modification of the function and layout of sites to support the needs of each group.
