About Your NetID

Your NetID is the electronic key to a many computing systems and services at Duke such as email, file storage, software, ACES (registration and grades), and Sakai (course information). Students are automatically assigned a NetID upon matriculation. Faculty and staff are assigned a NetID upon hire.

Your NetID is different from your Duke Unique ID (DUID), a seven-digit numeric identifier printed on the back of your Duke ID badge. Non-student DUIDs are listed publicly in Duke directories.

Additional security for your NetID

Multi-factor authentication (MFA), also referred to as two-step verification, provides an additional layer of security when logging-in. MFA is required when accessing the Duke@Work site. The IT Security Office strongly recommends MFA for other critical systems or sensitive data. Any Duke faculty, staff or student can set up MFA for their Duke NetID.
