OIT Computer Labs at Duke

Computer labs at Duke

OIT supports two kinds of labs on campus - Physical labs and virtual labs.

Physical Labs

OIT supports 17 physical computer labs on Duke’s campus, including a Multimedia Project Studio. Most labs are open 24 hours a day while classes are in session, but some have limited hours. For more details on lab locations, hardware and availability, visit the lab locations and hardware page. You can also learn more about what software is available by visiting the lab software page.

Virtual Labs

Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) is a service that allows Duke users to reserve a computer with specialized software and access it remotely from anywhere that you have Internet access. Virtual machines are available for the current versions of Matlab (Windows XP/7 & Linux) as well as Microsoft Office (Windows XP/7). Course-specific programs are also available for several schools.

Multimedia Project Studio

Duke students can find high-end software and hardware for all their audio and video production needs at Duke’s Multimedia Project Studio (MPS) in the lowe level of Bostock Library. The lab is staffed with knowledgeable employees who are willing to help. Two MPS work stations are also available in the Lilly Library computer lab.

Reserve A Lab

Duke faculty and staff may reserve an OIT computer lab for Duke-related functions. During Fall and Spring semesters, computer labs may be reserved for a maximum of four hours per session. During Fall and Spring breaks, labs may be reserved for a full day. Please check the schedule below for availability.
