Assistant Vice President
Julian Lombardi is an assistant vice president with Duke’s Office of Information Technology, where he oversees management and operational teams focused on IT service evolution, quality improvement and innovation in support of Duke’s academic and research activities and to extend the effectiveness of Duke’s distributed technology environment by facilitating close collaboration among academic departments and OIT.
In addition, Julian is a senior research scholar with Duke’s program in Information Science + Information Studies and holds an adjunct appointment with Duke's Department of Computer Science. Julian’s research focuses on human-computer interactions within socio-computational systems and the scalable support of virtual multi-participant virtual workspaces.
Before joining OIT, Julian was a faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 1999, he founded ViOS Inc., where he served as CEO and later as chief creative officer. From 2002-2005, he oversaw campus-wide strategic IT initiatives and managed a software research and development group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Julian holds a Ph.D. from Clemson University.
