Ginny Cake

Assistant Chief Information Officer

Assistant Chief Information Officer Ginny cake has worked at Duke for over 36 years. Past roles include management of multiple areas within OIT including planning, service and support management positions within telecommunications and computing.

Her accomplishments include oversight of the creation of the Service Desk and computing support structure; SWAT (Students with Access to Technology), an annual project to help new students get connected to the network and online resources; and the incident management and knowledgebase tools that still exist today. In addition, Ginny was responsible for planning and implementing the undergraduate student portal, DukePass, and the Duke iPod First-Year Experience, part of the Duke Digital Initiative, and she provided guidance in the development and implementation of Duke’s events calendar; Duke’s mobile presence, DukeMobile, and the first custom Cisco TelePresence Classroom at Duke University.

She also led a cultural shift within OIT to focus on the needs of the customer. This included implementing service- and operating-level agreements to set expectations, and establishing a life-cycle process for managing services and projects within OIT.

She has been a presenter at EDUCAUSE annual conferences regarding help desk and support structures and the Duke iPod First Year Experience. Ginny has an associate’s degree in business administration from Lees-McRae College.
